Painter and crochet knitter
Marta Vila Delgado was born in Lleida in 1980, studied Arts and Crafts at the EMBA ‘El Roser’, choosing the specialty of mural procedures. The leitmotif of her painting is concentrated on the figure of the TREE.
She always has in mind the countryside from l'Horta de Lleida in Catalonia, Spain. Serialism is latent when painting trees synthesized in horizontal rows, thus creating a hypnotizing landscape. Anxiety is one of the aspects that has led her to rediscover her profession and vocation as an artist.
For Marta, each tree is a door to a memory, an experience, an instant. The execution of each stroke is an internal movement, a journey into the subconscious, where each canvas evokes a manifestation of the mental plane: a 'mind map' that makes her see more clearly the path she is taking.
The interest in textile art was awakened shortly before her son was born, when she learned to knit using the crochet technique, ten years ago.
Her concern to express herself through textile fibers was; leaving aside the domestic and decorative functionalism of a crocheted piece.
Each stitch represents the TREE, thus maintaining his serialist discourse as with painting, playing with repetition to create a new landscape taken from the subconscious.
She chooses natural vegetable fibers such as hemp and jute combined with those of perlé cotton threads to provide shades of different colors. The technique she use on the tapestry and textile mural is crochet with a hook needle where each stitch has been woven by hand.
It also uses recycled fibers to create small and large formats, unique abstract works echoing the stages of her life such as motherhood and parenting.
She lives with her family in the countryside very close to Barcelona.
